ONLINE CLASSES, WORKSHOPS & CONSULTING IN HIP HOP HISTORY, BLACK HISTORY, PUBLIC SPEAKING AND MEDIA LITERACY

Greetings! I  offer dynamic, educational, and interactive online consulting and personalized classes and workshops on Hip-Hop History,  African/Black History, Public Speaking, and Media Literacy. These online classes are facilitated over Skype or Zoom platforms, thus you will need to have a Skype or Zoom account to register for the classes. Hip-Hop History: A Critical Examination

Hip Hop Culture is more than mere beats and rhymes…it is life. It is a culture, a movement, and a way of life. It was born out of the ingenuity, passion, and the hard-working people of color in New York City. Hip Hop culture has provided many with an outlet to voice their views on everything from politics to feminism, social justice, and community, throughout the years. Hip Hop culture is a vastly misunderstood medium. Hip Hop’s billion-dollar appeal has drawn the attention of large corporations that have used it to increase their “bottom line”. All in all, Hip-Hop culture has its espousers and its critics. Some are drawn to it for the same reason others are turned off by it. However, Hip Hop remains as one of the most popular, socially successful, and dynamic mediums ever created.

This dynamic course delves into the many aspects of Hip Hop culture (rap music, graffiti art, breakin, dee-jaying, etc). This course we will encourage students to critically explore this African/black created cultural art form known as Hip Hop and how it transcends race, socioeconomic background, culture, and gender. This course will critically examine the lyrical content of many songs and the epochs in which they were written. This course will also examine genres of music (blues, jazz, Afro-Beat, soul, et al) that have contributed to the inception and evolution of RAP music. This class is much more than just Hip Hop Culture. This course will critically examine myriad social issues through the lens of Hip Hop Culture. This class is broken up into different segments, however, students may opt to simply take one class or several sessions within the course.  Whether one class or the entire course, students will gain a much deeper understanding of Hip Hop Culture’s History and the contextual backdrop in which the culture evolved.

African/Black History

This class explores various aspects within the vast realm of African/Black history, from antiquity to contemporary times. Within this category, there are several different units/areas of Black history that prospective students can choose from, including an introduction to the African Origins of Humanity/Sciences/Civilization, Intro into the Global African Presence, The Impact of Chattel Slavery Throughout the Western Hemisphere, Slave Insurrections, The United States’ Civil Rights Movement, The Black Power Movement, Liberations Movements within the African Continent, Black History in the Caribbean, and much, much more.

Historical figures, significant epochs in history, and social movements will all be explored within the various sessions of this course. Students can even tailor their sessions to meet the areas of African/Black history they have interest in.

Media Literacy

Media Literacy is a critical skill set for anyone interested in deconstructing the dominant narratives and images they are bombarded with on a daily basis. Media literacy and critical thought go hand-in-hand. This class teachings students some of the fascinating origins of media literacy and how public relations has been used to manipulate the masses, sometimes in dubious ways. This class also teaches students how to deconstruct dominant narratives, in an effort to, not only to become more informed but how to avert media-related pitfalls. This is not only a vastly interesting class, but it is also extremely educational and informative.

Public Speaking & Speech Creation

This class is for people interested in learning how to develop write, develop, and give public speeches. Students will get advice and learn how to craft signature public speeches. Public speaking is an important skill set that can be transferred into various realms of business, life, and school. This is a powerful class for students of all ages and backgrounds.
