Informational Resources

In my opinion, access to information (or the lack of) is often the difference between social activism and social apathy. Directly below you will find links to various websites that contain information that may be of use to you or someone you know. Please take time to peruse the websites listed. They contain information that needs to be known and disseminated far and wide.

Your World News

Your World News is a Community Based Media Collective that was started in 2009 with the intent to report news that the corporate media often ignores as well as to deconstruct critical issues and stories that need to be told—from a progressive narrative.

Community Activism & Empowerment

We often wonder what we can do to make a change in our communities once we are provided information around a particular issue. This feeling is the opposite of social apathy. It means we care enough to try to figure out how we can help. Many of our communities face similar problems, however we frequently feel isolated. We don’t have to allow anything, or anyone to keep us isolated from one another. Many community issues are inextricably connected from one to the next. We stand a much better chance defeating these issues, if we work together.

The Pan African Empowerment Blogspot was created so that communities can connect with one another, share ideas, work together, and rebuild neighborhoods, in various ways, for the better. There is a ton of useful information on this site, including links to other very useful and informative websites. Don’t let others separate and isolate us. Together, we can work together to make a huge difference in each other’s communities!

Stop Big Media.com

The overwhelming majority of the media, within America, is controlled by a very small number of individuals/large corporations. This imbalance of ownership has created a situation that has adversely affected women and people of color. Various laws and policies have been shaped to enable large corporations to continue their tight grip on media ownership. These policies and laws often get passed with very little public debate. It is time we (as a community of concerned individuals) become more politically involved in this issue. Together, we can create a more diversified media, which in turn, creates a stronger and truer democracy. StopBigMedia.com is a project of the Free Press Action Fund — a national, nonpartisan organization working to reform the media.

Enough is Enough Campaign

The purpose of this campaign is to protest the commercialization and marketing of negative and derogatory images of black men and women in the entertainment industry. This movement recognizes the power of media and entertainment corporations to shape American attitudes, opinions, behaviors, and even policies by and about people of color. The campaign contends that music companies do not equitably apply standards for lyrical content that is offensive to blacks as for other groups. Likewise, many American corporations have different standards for sponsoring artists whose music is offensive to blacks than they do for material that is offensive to other groups. That is, many American corporations sponsor, through endorsements and advertising on radio and television outlets, artists who promote negative messages about black people, but would not provide such sponsorship for artists who degrade other interest groups.
